My name is Erin Shillinger, and I live in Comstock Park with my husband Mike, my two adorable daughters, Kayla and Lydia, and our pet parakeet, Tiki. I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Integrated Science and Elementary Education, and have a Master's Degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Learning Disabilities. Before I became a teacher, I worked for a company called Rockford Integrative Educational Partners, which is a specialized tutoring facility for struggling learners. Here, I had the rewarding opportunity to work with, and witness frustrated disengaged students blossom into interested and successful learners!
In school, I found learning to be challenging and exciting, and was inspired by many great teachers along the way. Due to the challenges I have had to overcome to excel as a learner, I learned the value of working hard to achieve a goal. I also have the unique understanding of students who struggle, and the resources in which to encourage and support them.
When I'm not working beside students in the classroom, I can be found sailing out on Lake Michigan, camping/hiking in our breathtaking state and national parks, or skiing and snowmobiling to pass the time during our long, but beautiful Michigan winters!
My passion has always been in education, and I feel so fortunate to have a career as an elementary teacher! I am committed to ensuring the success of each student in my class, and am always working to incorporate new and exciting teaching methods into my daily instruction. I look forward to working with you and your child to develop a passion for learning, that extends outside the walls of our classroom! Together, lets make this year, a year of wonder and inspiration!
